What an audit actually looks at

A structured audit covers the major consumers in a typical plant:

  • Motors and drives — oversized motors running at part load, and applications where a VFD would pay for itself
  • Compressed air — leakage, generation pressure, and unnecessary end uses
  • Lighting — both the fittings themselves and the control strategy
  • Power quality — power factor, harmonics and transformer loading
  • Process heat and cooling — insulation, recovery opportunities and set points

  2. Motors are frequently oversized for their actual duty, wasting energy at every hour of operation
  3. Power factor correction is often either absent or no longer matched to the current load profile
  4. Idle equipment continues drawing power outside production hours
